The plan developed by MSI Design addresses the design, implementation and maintenance of complete “Landscape Systems” for the campus including plantings, drainage, hardscape, furnishings, lighting, irrigation and signature elements in the campus. The plan documents, assesses and recommends campus-wide landscape solutions and provides guidance for designated “project areas” around campus. It also includes an analysis of existing campus organization as a whole, and evaluates the “campus spaces” based upon the size, function, location and character of each. The recommended projects were then prioritized according to funding requirements to create a specific plan of action for the University to realize the Landscape Master Plan. The Landscape Master Plan provides the University with recommended projects to implement and a strategy to realize the overall master plan design, bringing about a campus that is a more unified and pleasing place for students, faculty and visitors.

MSI Design was able to identify a list of key issues, goals, and solutions to the existing problems. The recommendations addressed the distribution, proximity and amount of parking on campus as well as bike facilities and the development of stronger pedestrian links. The study also encouraged the use of energy efficient vehicles. The study evaluated the University parking and transportation policies and recommended changes to improve efficiency and understandability of the overall system. Parking lot plans were created for the recommended lots. As a guide to implementation, a complete assessment of constructability, stormwater requirements, and estimates of probable cost were developed. Addressing the central campus development issue of parking in an innovative and practical way, allows the University to comprehensively deal with the logistical concerns in the most effective manner, while preserving the character of the campus. Using this plan, the campus character will remain intact while accommodating students, faculty and visitors.

MSI Design had the privilege of working with the University to renovate the Drexel Gate. This sacred campus icon signals not only a student’s beginning at Capital University with a walk under the arches but also provides the path to their future when they walk through the arch for only the second time upon their graduation. Returning this important symbol to its proper prominence was achieved through conscientious design and respect for campus tradition. MSI Design provided a renovation plan to update the paths and landscaping surrounding the Drexel Gate to improve the condition and highlight its significance. New plantings and a double allee of trees, as well as new paving in the form of arcing walkway, create the proper framework. Architectural lighting accents the Drexel Gate at night.

At many college campuses, fountains are cherished elements where gatherings become memories, chance meetings become life-long friendships, and happenstance events become traditions. These spaces are fondly remembered because water, either passive or active, naturally attracts a wide range of people and personalities that enjoy its visual, aural, and tactile qualities. It is hoped that the new Traditions Fountain at Capital University will become a signature campus space where students, faculty, and visitors gather to study, talk, laugh, and reminisce. Carefully sited and designed, the fountain space is a centerpiece for campus and flanks a key north-south pedestrian path, making it a part of daily life for nearly everyone. Day or night, winter or summer, the space is enlivened by sculptural forms, interesting lighting, and lasting materials.

The Bay Lake Tower at the Contemporary Resort provides first class amenities in this luxury environment. Nestled at the edge of Bay Lake, the grounds provide year-round recreation and top-rate pool and spa facilities. The pool deck and grounds mirror the clean, modern style of the tower, designed by Gwathmey Siegel. With curving lines and intense colors, the main pool is a true physical and visual oasis. It is also the recreational heart of the resort with water slides and spray activities tucked carefully in to the design. The spa provides an escape for relaxing parents while kids enjoy the interactive pop-jet fountain. The entire grounds feature simple, high-design features, but without losing sight of the fun. Linear fountains and a long tree-filled plaza lead guests from the hotel to the lakefront paths and shaded areas allow all-day enjoyment of the pool deck and play areas. MSI Design was responsible for all site design from conceptual planning through construction administration for the Bay Lake Tower.

Nestled in natural forest, the Treehouse Villas at Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa marks the newest phase of what has become the largest Vacation Club resort, Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa. This new phase revives “treehouse living,” a cherished tradition from 1975-2002. The project replaces the original treehouse villas of the ‘70s with 60 brand-new “glamping” (glamorous camping) villas. Included in the renovation is a revamped pool area, restrooms, vending area, construction of a new Cast building and upgrade to the property’s technology infrastructure. The Treehouse Villas are surrounded by wetlands; the new site construction reduces the original resort footprint. Each Villa was prefabricated off site and craned into place resting on ten foot above finished grade on concrete pylon foundations. MSI Design provided all site planning services including pool and support faculty design, trails, decks, lighting and native landscape design.

Planet Hollywood Towers by Westgate Resorts, a 50-story glass marvel, features 1200 luxuriously appointed vacation villas and 28 exclusive penthouse suites. 3.2 million square feet of living space is fully integrated with the all-new Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino for a complete Las Vegas vacation experience.

MSI Design provided the design for the main pool amenity area that is located over structured parking and will serve as the outdoor gathering space for the resort. The amenity area is complete with multi level interactive water features, sand beach with zero entry pool area, cabanas with sun decks over the pool, swim-up bar, outdoor dining areas, and extensive landscaped pool deck areas. MSI Design also provided the design for the penthouse level pool amenity area located on the 46th floor of the resort.

Parc Soleil is a 52-acre, 1200-unit destination resort developed by the Hilton Grand Vacations Club company. The project is located on a five-acre lake and features intense on-site recreation development designed to please all ages. The design theme for the resort is the casual Riviera atmosphere of southern France.

The centerpieces of the project are the three swimming pools. These pool areas provide the heart of the recreation time for the families and couples visiting Parc Soleil. Many different opportunities have been created such as poolside cabanas and dining areas. Beautiful elements include formal gardens and public plazas with fountains and statuary. MSI Design provided the site planning, pool and fountain design, hardscape, site lighting, landscape and irrigation design for the Parc Soleil.

The 1969 Ryder Cup in Southport, England marked an event unparalleled in professional golf. In the final moments of the round, Jack Nicklaus conceded a putt to British golf legend Tony Jacklin, tying the event. Thirty-five years later, Core Development has brought these two friends together again. The event, now known as “The Concession”, has been commemorated in the form of an 18-hole signature golf course, golf clubhouse, and 255 lot residential community bearing the same name. The site is located in Manatee County on Florida’s Gulf Coast.

The clubhouse opened August 2009 and MSI Design’s scope of services included conceptual land planning, site plan approvals with local and state agencies, and construction drawings for the two project entrances, the main golf clubhouse site, the amenity club area and all common area roadways & site buffers. MSI Design worked closely with Nicklaus Design to provide a cohesive and seamless transition from golf course to clubhouse to home site.

The Hilton Grand Vacations Club on Las Vegas Boulevard is a 10 acre resort on the north end of “The Strip” in Las Vegas, Nevada. The resort celebrates the Art Deco architecture of the 1930’s and 40’s.

The project consists of 4 guest room towers situated around a central lobby and guest services core. MSI Design has provided landscape and amenity master planning for phases 3 and 4 which includes a “Fantasy Desert Deco” adventure pool area with zero entry pool area and water slides as well as a “Leisure Spa” pool courtyard for swimming laps or relaxing in the shade of the palm bosques and trellis pavilions.
