Franklin Park is the home of the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, therefore this urban park serves many roles, including regional, district and neighborhood park. Creating the new vision for Franklin Park was a community-based process, resulting in a Master Plan that establishes a new organizational structure and a hierarchy of pedestrian and vehicular circulation systems.
Plan implementation has been underway since its completion, with the Bride’s Garden completed in 2008 and the Community Gardens underway. Future elements of the plan include a new lake, promontory overlook with waterfalls and park shelters, as well as additional special-use gardens complementary to the conservatory expansion. MSI worked closely with Julie Moir Messervy, of Messervy Associates, Boston, MA, in the development of the master plan and public process.
