The Ohio Department of Transportation is conducting a study that will guide the $1.6 billion rebuild of the I-70/71 corridor in downtown Columbus. As a result of extensive public inquiry, MSI created the Design Enhancement Plan to heal the urban fabric that was severely damaged as a result of the highway’s original construction. The scope of the project considers the highway trench, the city streets paralleling the highway and all of the perpendicular road crossings. The vision for the plan includes gateways, wide sidewalks, and signature bridges that would better connect downtown with surrounding neighborhoods.
