The central iconic building on Ohio State’s campus, the Library plays a significant role in defining the University’s overall identity. The pedestrian and vehicular connections were reevaluated and the Library was integrated as the only structure within the confines of the prominent Oval pathway. MSI faced the challenge of incorporating new elements while preserving existing ones, such as large trees and utilities, while respecting the historic and symbolic significance of the site. MSI collaborated closely with the architecture team of the Gund Partnership and Acock Associates Architects to integrate the building program into the site plan. MSI is also responsible for all site planning and design development.
